VOL. 2, TRACK 2: THE POWER STATION, "GET IT ON (BANG A GONG)”

This is the kind of song (and music video) it’s best not to overthink. As a matter of fact, if you’re not either a) having sex; b) dancing sweatily in a New Wave nightclub;. or c) gyrating around a bonfire naked when you hear “Get It On (Bang A Gong),” there is probably something wrong with you.

This is the kind of song that makes me want to dance again. And if I had a lover who appreciated ‘80s music, I might even get to have sex to this song, too.

But I don’t mean to imply that “Get it On (Bang a Gong)” is all about sex, or gyrating wildly and sweatily. Please, if you will, ignore the preposterous‘caricature of 80s set design/animation/excess/mess, so you can more easily focus on the dead-set seriousness of band members Robert Palmer, as well as Andy and John Taylor from Duran Duran.

Even being a so-called “supergroup,” it takes a lot of power to live up to a band name like the Power Station. Which is where the seriousness comes in, I’m sure. You may be having sex with humans right now, is what this seriousness seems to convey, throughout the music video, while we are busy having abstract, serious sex wtih our musical instruments. Which is so New Wave!

I’ll give myself a 9/10 for just getting through this review today.
