VOL. 1, TRACK 9: COMBO AUDIO, “ROMANTICIDE”
“Romanticide” is a decent track that got a terrible, derivative video. It’s not just that the image quality was so awful in the version I watched. It’s the fact that it borrows so heavily (and boringly) from other New Wave videos trying to go above their pay grade, in terms of trying to make “mini movies” full of plot and intrigue. IT’S A MUSIC VIDEO; can we just go for energy and rhythm and fabulous good looks, and leave it right there?!?
Nonsensical, distracting plot lines aside, the final nail in the coffin, for me, was that “Romanticide” is shot in black and white, for the ultimate dose of overall yawn. This is the ‘80s, not the ‘40s!!!! And yet, I see that this is actually a wannabe ‘40s “movie.” It takes place just after WWII, at a so-called “victory” party. Yes, JUST LIKE Kajagoogoo’s “Too Shy.”
I’m giving the video for “Romanticide” a 3/10, because I don’t engage in New Wave activities to be bored. Having said that, I will be pondering the concept of “romanticide,” which is certainly a thing, and, especially, a New Wave thing, since there is so much romance in all things New Wave.
